I agree, it really became another show after season one, closer to Modern Family than what Gervais did. I know a lot of people who don't like it because it's sacrilegious to Americanize a classic British comedy, but we've been doing that since Sanford & Son and All In The Family.
I love the UK one but the US version is really good too.
Even now when I rewatch the US version I struggle with season 1. There are some funny bits in it though.
I cringe when I hear about people not wanting to be referred to as he or she but as they. Or when a girl wants to be called he or a boy she. Why the fuck is the modern generation so fucking confused about their identities? If someone doesn’t want me to refer to them as he or she, then I will refer to them by their name.
My problem is one of my nieces thinks she’s not a girl and doesn’t want to be referred to as she. But she is still female. Neither a decision nor a feeling change biological reality. She’s the only person I know who is like this. So I just refer to her by her name rather than a pronoun.
This is the most recent in a long line of clear and obvious fakers. The best imo was the Chasers pretending to be from the Canadian government and then returning the following day in cardboard cars. Congratulations to this kid. He’s got balls. I bet the other inmates are going to play with them.
