I'm joking, but I think people's minds were made up about every election, at least since Bush and Gore since nobody had anything to care about in 2000. So it's all about firing up the base. And "I'm not the other guy" really doesn't do that. We saw that in 2004. Maybe Trump will be different since he's so polarizing (to put it mildly.) But people forget George W. Bush was also a stupid racist too dangerous for office, and he still beat a "I'm not the other guy" campaign from Kerry. And he won partially by playing on the conservatives persecution complex to make them turn out.
