Bandit wrote:Ian will start to write 1986 was better until he sees Savage Garden in the top 10 in 96.

And I think 96 was better. Return of the Mack, You're Making Me High, How Do U Want It, Scooby Snacks, Devil's Haircut, El Scorcho, No Diggity, Hero Of The Day.
Savage garden were good and Darren Hayes can sing. BUT... Paul Kelly was in the charts in 86.

Sure sledgehammer (Which I fucking hate) almost ruins the whole chart.. But Paul Kelly overpowers that..

So I have to go with 86.. also... DANGER ZONE!!!!!

As for the UK charts. it's a lot closer..
Sure 86 had West End Girls and Walk Of Life
But 96 had Children, Wonderwall and Gangsta's Paradise

On the UK charts, I'd go with 96.. On the local charts I gotta go with 86..

Wham! wasn't high up on the US chart because they didn't really get a big promotional push until later in 1984 and Careless Whisper didn't hit #1 here until early 1985.

MJ lost a bit of ground not releasing anything in 1984. I believe he was on the Victory tour but he really could have stayed ahead of the game if he put albums out more regularly. 1984 really was Princes year as the premiere artist. Thriller would have been tough for anyone to follow up but I think Mike waited a little long with Bad. Same with Stevie too his Innervisions, Talking Book and Songs in the Key of Life pushed him ahead of the game but by the 80s he still had good songs but the albums weren't as genre defining. In Square Circle and Characters do contain some hidden gems though like "Skeletons" & "Go Home". The extended versions are cool too.

Solo are one of the most underrated groups of that era. Their first album is epesically good and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The lead singer sounds a bit like TTD/Sananda too.

R&B groups do do that, Dave Hollister from Blackstreet put out gospel records, same with Woody from Dru Hill for example. But to my knowledge Solo make R&B music. Will have to check their new EP out

https://www.solothegroup.com

They had a hit with the song "Heaven". The album should be up on YouTube. Came out in 95 if I'm correct.
